I love being a bedside nurse.
So I am working at this new travel position which was ~shockingly~ an office job. The position definitely requires you to have a medical knowledge base but it is not by any means a nursing care role- I do not even see any patients in person. In any event, I let it slip today that I love being a floor nurse and my coworker was in disbelief.
Now, I see the advantages, 100%, for nursing office work. But at this point in my life, I love nursing.
I love the comradery of the floor.
I love wearing what is basically glorified pajamas to work.
I love assisting the doctors with various procedures.
I love the trauma bonding when a patient poops all over you and the aide.
I love trying to set my single friends up with the officers that can be found roaming around the ED.
I love working three shifts and then being so completely exhausted I hibernate until noon the next day.
I love caring for people.
I love giving people dignity and love in the most difficult times of their lives.
I love learning about the human body.
I love harassing the doctors to put in my orders.
I love complaining about the doctors when they don't.
I love doing the nastiest most gruesome woundcare and then watching the body heal.
I love being a nurse. It’s not for everyone, but it’s for me.
